No balance = no beer
We can't tell you what you like; that's for you to tell us, but we hope to create beers that are delicious and might open your eyes to a new style. We feel, first and foremost, that no matter the style, no balance = no beer. Building from a base of exceptional malt that comes primarily from Scotland, we use the Howe's slightly hard water and we balance that with exciting yeast and hops to give you a range of styles that we hope will satiate and interest you. It's easy to make mediocre beer and splash some mad graphics around to imply something exciting, but nah, that ain't our bag. We're going to keep it small, we're going to keep it here. That's just Howe we're going to do biz!
Our first beers on tap:
80 Shilling (5%abv) New building, new brewhouse, traditional beer. Let's not get to crazy out of the gate. However, there is something of an 80 shilling renaissance on the go and, we think, justifiably so. Big malt, solid abv, and assertive bitterness. A beautiful copper colour welcomes you into this fullbodied classic. We have carbonated this in a way that lends itself to a fine bubble and almost cask like mouthfeel.
Auld Muddy Boots (4.5%abv) Ten malts are carefully layered in this stout. It’s a nod to the brewhouse's past and the importance this place held for so many of you… and also the easiest way to explain to visitors/delivery drivers where we are. Chocolate and sweet coffee on the nose. Sweet chocolate, coffee, nuts and a hint of salt combine with a rich mouthfeel to give you the stout you deserve.
Sunshine Daydream (5.2%abv) We define this style as Garden Lager. Low bitterness, fruit forward, with light malt body and dry crisp finish. Kev came up with the recipe as a last minute thing for a garden party that proved to be hugely popular. In this iteration Solero hop provides the fruit flav-a-flav and aromas. Sunshine in a glass!
Next up… an IPA and Farmhouse Saison. Stay tuned…
